Manuel Demetz is doing his PhD on in Bolzano and Amsterdam on the topic of Identity Ethics, Networks and Organizations: "An identity ethics approach does not try to describe the behavior of individuals, but is concerned about the subjectivity of organization in creating behavioral patterns for regulating expectations and actions within the cultural and economic system. In this context, the identities of organizations are essential for the creation of systems specific structures.
In evolutionary terms, identities can provide for networks and if their regulative functions are 'strong' enough, the interaction may increase and lead into an organizational system of action. The adjectival complement 'strong' here refers to meaning creation and expressivity of the identity.
In contrast to the traditional approach of rational behavior in economics, identity ethics are concerned about the distinctive function of behavior and a systematic perspective in analyzing economic and cultural behavior. It is central for this study, to enlighten the understanding of the linkage between the economic subsystems to the cultural system."
